New Light Theatre is thrilled to announce our next production, Citizen: An American Lyric, by Claudia Rankine, adapted for the stage by Stephen Sachs.
Directed by Lindsay Smiling, Citizen: An American Lyric flows through portraits of everyday microaggressions and institutional racism in an unapologetic, poetic expression of living while Black in America.
New Light Theatre’s mission is to use each production to raise awareness and support for thematically connected charitable organizations that bring light to the darkness of the world. In accordance with this mission, Citizen: An American Lyric partners with the Delaware Coalition to Dismantle the New Jim Crow, a local nonprofit organization that creates initiatives to define, educate, advocate and coordinate solutions for racial discrimination and institutional policies and systems to create a society where all members of the community have a fair and equal chance at success and quality of life.
