Now accepting actor submissions for a virtual production of Citizen: An American Lyric, by Claudia Rankine, adapted for the stage by Stephen Sachs, directed by Lindsay Smiling. Citizen: An American Lyric flows through portraits of everyday microaggressions and institutional racism in an unapologetic, poetic expression of living while Black in America. Citizen will be rehearsed and filmed in the Wilmington, DE area from September 14-October 3, and streamed October 21-24th. We hope to rehearse and film the production in the same space. This is subject to change, taking into account COVID data, vaccinations and CDC guidelines.

New Light Theatre is dedicated to improving the human condition by partnering each production with thematically connected charitable causes, while also placing a special emphasis on providing opportunities for student and emerging theatre artists to work in a professional setting. New Light Theatre is committed to bringing light to the darkness of the world, to raising awareness and support for organizations that illuminate, and to deepening our empathy and connection with one another through meaningful artistic work. In accordance with this mission, Citizen: An American Lyric will partner with the Delaware Coalition to Dismantle the New Jim Crow, an organization that creates initiatives to define, educate, advocate and coordinate solutions for racial discrimination and insitutional policies and system to create a society where all members of the community have a fair and equal chance at success and quality of life.
