New Light Theatre is committed to bringing light to the darkness of the world, to raising awareness and support for organizations that illuminate, and to deepening our empathy and connection with one another through meaningful artistic work. In accordance with this mission, Once will partner with RISE, a program of Jewish Family Services. As the oldest refugee resettlement agency in the state of Delaware, RISE at JFS has resettled and reunited families, provided critical case management and counseling services, and engaged community leaders in the refugee experience through education, volunteerism, and advocacy. Through intensive, culturally sensitive case management, RISE helps refugees and other immigrants integrate and make a home in their new communities, obtain and retain employment, and establish and maintain healthy lifestyles to achieve self-sufficiency. Once is performed by a corps of actor musicians, therefore, most characters must be able to play an instrument. New Light Theatre is especially seeking actors who are proficient in accompanying themselves on an instrument, which may include guitar, piano, drums, violin, fiddle, cello, accordion, banjo, mandolin or bass. The role of Ivonka, written for a girl who can play 6-12 years old, does not need to play an instrument. To be considered, please submit headshot, resume and a video of 16-32 bars of a song in the style of the show, either accompanied by an instrument, or sending a separate video playing an instrument, to Artistic Director, Lena Mucchetti at lena@newlighttheatre.com, no later than March 22nd. In person callbacks, by invitation only, will follow.

Seeking submissions from artists of all ages, gender, sexual, and racial identities for all roles in the production.
